weekends. As a skilled craftsman working well in a dwindling art, he was often asked to be present at race tracks to shoe horses if so needed. When he wasn’t with his family in church… worship could get challenging for many. But they handled the situation well. Six Pack would sit in the very front pew of the little sanctuary, centered between the six siblings so she and the pastor’s glare would tend to keep children’s activities to a quiet melee. Also, when attending, certain congregation members would scatter the crew by inviting a child to sit with them. However, we can’t be sure whether that latter providential sharing was done out of mercy or self preservation. One of the more difficult instances of church participation came as the two eldest were to be baptized. Understand that when newly married, Bjorn and Six Pack could not conceive. After a few barren years they decided to foster siblings who had been neglected. Six Pack had decided that her degree in psychology could be of good use. However, as time went by her faith expression was challenged when she wanted to have two children baptized. The child welfare folks said it couldn’t be done to foster children unless the birth parent’s consent was given… unless the children were adopted they’d added. had… then their baptisms were planned and accomplished as the Holy Spirit livened the lukewarm water of the font. So it went as the couple lived with their two baptized siblings, until Six Pack became surprisingly pregnant… and then pregnant again… and so on... until the present year. After the family grew to containing six children, during this early spring the van’s fuel pump issue arose. However, the vehicle was soon fixed and all seemed well again in the Ballantine household. Yet that isn’t the end of our story, To be sure, by grace the family had been increased in May once again by Six Pack giving birth to their seventh child. A few weeks later Bjorn chose to stay home from his race track forays and forge. Mid-June had arrived and a baptism was scheduled. Ready for church on that special morning, he loaded his herd into the old Dodge van. Then Six Pack made sure the seat belts were fastened and tight. The baby was fastened securely in the car seat.
