over the favored road to take for its future. Jesus’ brother James, for example, wanted the Church to be most prominent in Jerusalem. However, Paul and the Hellenist Jews wanted the churches to be centered first in Antioch, Syria and then expand across the Roman Empire. Blessed Peter made many attempts to reconcile all persons immersed in that fray. Indeed it seems that the early Christians competed with one another in a way that would make Mustang, Camaro and ‘Cuda proponents proud. This last we know from the rather fiery letter of Paul to the Galatians and the later records written down in the Acts of the Apostles.

 Finally, the Church got the dents from the fenders. Some thirty-seven years or so after the death and Resurrection of Jesus, the first actual book in the New Testament was penned. The Gospel According to Saint Mark came bursting forth like the first Benz automobile, which was reportedly stolen and driven by Karl’s wife. She frightened many horses at the fair.

writing informed people that Jesus was the Son of Man sent by God. He had come into the world to announce the new and lasting religious model. Indeed, Jesus had said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the good news.” (Mark 1:15b).

 From that first gospel writer who told of the discovery of Jesus’ empty tomb in such a developed way, came many later witnesses. Much like that first motorized limousine that carried our U.S. President safely underground from the White House to Congress, the gospel message was carried across the empire often through cemetery catacombs… on toward the end of the first century. Much of Mark’s record was later used as a resource for the writing of the gospels of Matthew and Luke.

When Mark’s writing did appear in ancient Syria in about 70 A.D. It contained a wondrous collection of both oral and early written collections about Jesus. The book was written for a purpose. Guided by the Holy Spirit... the
